Florence
In Florence, I kept noticing the city carrying on around all that history. Leather stalls crowding a street beneath San Lorenzo, a carriage driver waiting outside a storefront, cardboard boxes left along an otherwise empty lane.
The softer light made smaller patterns stand out: lanterns repeating down a wall, striped awnings, one arch leading into another. The grander Florence was always there, but often somewhere in the background.
